Course Overview
Educafe is delivering a supportive 10-week English for Health & Wellbeing course designed for adults from Hong Kong BN(O), Ukrainian and Afghan communities who want to build confidence using English in health, self-care and wellbeing contexts.
This practical, face-to-face programme helps learners develop the everyday English they need to look after their health, communicate clearly with healthcare professionals, and understand how the UK health system works. Lessons are delivered in a friendly community setting, with a strong focus on speaking, listening and real-life scenarios.
The course provides a safe, inclusive space where learners can build language skills, confidence and wellbeing together, while gaining greater independence when accessing health services.

• Group size: Maximum 15 learners
• Duration: 10 weeks (24 Guided Learning Hours)
• Weekly commitment: 2–2.5 hours per week
• Venue: Community venue (to be confirmed)
• Delivery mode: Face-to-face, small group
• Level: Pre-Entry to Entry 1 (no formal English qualification required)
What Learners Will Learn
By the end of the course, learners will be able to:
•Use everyday English to talk about health, illness, symptoms and feelings
• Communicate more confidently with GPs, nurses, pharmacists and hospital staff
• Understand how to register with a GP, book appointments and attend referrals
• Use appropriate language for emergencies, prescriptions and follow-up care
• Talk about self-care, mental wellbeing and healthy routines
• Ask questions, explain needs and understand basic medical instructions
• Build confidence navigating UK health and wellbeing services independently
How the Course Is Taught
Sessions are interactive and supportive, using:
• Practical speaking and listening activities
•Role-play of real healthcare situations
• Visual prompts and plain-English explanations
• Pair and small-group work
• Culturally sensitive discussion and peer support
Learners are encouraged to practice English in a relaxed, non-judgmental environment, with plenty of repetition and opportunities to ask questions.
Progression
This course supports learners to:
- Feel more confident managing their own health and wellbeing
• Reduce anxiety around healthcare appointments
• Progress into further ESOL learning, volunteering or community activities
• Engage more independently with local services
