Beginners ESOL

Face-to-face in Newbury

This welcoming course is for adults who are beginning to learn English or who have only a small amount of English. Learners will develop the essential language needed for everyday life in the UK. Lessons will focus on practical communication and will help learners become more confident speaking and understanding English.

The course may include:

Introducing yourself and sharing personal information
Numbers, dates, times and appointments
Shopping, money and everyday services
Health and wellbeing
Family, home and daily routines
Travel and asking for directions
Understanding simple forms, signs and messages
Reading and writing short sentences

How You’ll Learn

-No exams! Instead of formal testing, we assess your progress through regular class activities so you always know how you’re doing.
-After each session, you’ll receive a vocabulary list and/or grammar summary to review at home.
-We revisit this material in the next class to help strengthen your learning.

By the End of the Course, You Will Be Able To:

-Communicate confidently in everyday situations
-Speak with native English speakers
-Understand UK systems such as healthcare and education
-Engage with your local community and support services
-Prepare for further education, volunteering, or employment

Eligibility

For learners who:

-Live in West Berkshire
-Are UK citizens, have Settled Status, or are entitled to UK public funds
-Can provide a Biometric Visa and proof of address

If you are an asylum seeker, you must have been living in the UK for at least six months before applying.

📚 Learners will need to purchase a workbook and coursebook.
