These guidelines exist to protect the purpose and safety of all Educafe spaces – online and face-to-face – for everyone.

Community Cafe @ Newbury Library (on Wednesdays)
Educafe exists so people can gather, connect and feel they belong.
To keep this space safe and welcoming for everyone, we ask all visitors to follow these simple expectations:
1. Be kind and respectful
Speak to others with care. We welcome different views and experiences, but not unkindness. No shouting, swearing at others, intimidation or personal attacks.
2. No racism or derogatory language
Racist, discriminatory or derogatory language or behaviour will not be tolerated. This includes comments relating to race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexuality, disability, age or background. If it harms, excludes or demeans someone, it is not acceptable here.
3. Respect differences
People come from many walks of life. We may not all agree — that’s okay. We listen, stay curious and avoid trying to dominate or shut down others.
4. Keep it safe for children and families
Be mindful that children and young people are often present. Language and behaviour should reflect that.
5. No promotion or selling without agreement
Educafe is a community space, not a marketplace. Please do not advertise, sell or promote services without prior agreement from the team.
6. No photography
We politely ask you refrain from any photography. The Educafe team only may capture photography or film footage but will notify any visitors in the vicinity and ask for permission.
7. Follow team guidance
Our staff and volunteers are here to support the space. If they ask you to adjust behaviour, we expect that request to be respected.
If the Community Cafe Code of Conduct is not met?
If behaviour falls below these standards, we will:
-
Have a conversation and give a clear warning where appropriate.
-
Ask someone to leave for the day if needed.
-
In serious cases – including racist or discriminatory behaviour – suspend or remove access to the space.
Our priority is protecting the safety, dignity and wellbeing of the whole community.
Educafe is built on belonging. Thank you for helping us keep it that way.

If the WhatsApp Group Code of Conduct Isn’t Met
To protect the safety and tone of the group, Educafe will take proportionate action where needed. This may include:
1. Post removal
Content that breaches the Code of Conduct (e.g. advertising, misinformation, disrespectful language, racist or derogatory remarks) may be removed without notice.
2. Private reminder
A moderator may send a private message clarifying the boundary and reminding the member of the group expectations.
3. Formal warning
If behaviour continues, a clear written warning will be issued. This will outline the concern and the consequence of further breaches.
4. Temporary pause
Members may be temporarily muted or removed from the group to allow space for reflection.
5. Permanent removal
Repeated breaches, aggressive responses to moderation, or any racist, discriminatory or harmful behaviour will result in permanent removal from the group.
