Upper Intermediate ESOL

This online course is for learners who can communicate independently in many everyday situations but would like to improve their fluency, accuracy and confidence. Learners will develop the English needed for more complex conversations, employment, education and active participation in the community. The course will help learners express ideas clearly, understand longer texts and communicate appropriately in different situations. 

The course may include:
  • -Expressing and supporting opinions
  • -Participating in discussions
  • -Giving explanations and presentations
  • -Writing structured emails and longer texts
  • -Understanding news, workplace and community information
  • -Developing vocabulary and grammar
  • -Improving pronunciation, fluency and listening skills
  • -Preparing for higher-level learning or employment

Learners will need reliable internet access and a device with a camera and microphone.

– No exams! Instead of formal testing, we use regular in-class assessments so you always understand your progress and learning level.
– After each lesson, you’ll receive vocabulary and grammar summaries to review at home, helping you reinforce what you’ve learned.
– We revisit key topics in future lessons to ensure strong retention and real progress.

By the End of the Course, You Will Be Able To:

– Read and understand complex texts with confidence
– Communicate clearly in professional, academic, and social settings
– Listen and respond to detailed explanations and multi-step instructions
– Write effectively for different purposes (e.g. emails, reports, letters)
– Prepare for further study, work, or volunteering in the UK

Eligibility

For learners who:

– Live in West Berkshire
– Are UK citizens, have Settled Status, or are entitled to UK public funds
– Can provide a Biometric Visa and proof of address
Asylum seekers must have lived in the UK for at least six months before enrolling.
