introduction
At Educafe, we believe in creating spaces where people feel welcomed, supported, and empowered to grow. Emine’s journey is a powerful example of how community-led support can transform lives, helping individuals build confidence, develop new skills and become active contributors to their community.
Starting a New Life in the UK
When Emine first arrived in the UK, she faced significant barriers, particularly with language. With limited English and low confidence in communication, everyday interactions felt overwhelming. Like many newcomers, she experienced isolation and uncertainty while trying to settle into a new environment.
At this early stage, access to a supportive community was crucial, not only to develop language skills but also to rebuild confidence and a sense of belonging.
Progress and Growth: Rachel’s Perspective
A key part of Emine’s progress has been the support and encouragement of her English teacher, Rachel.
“Emine shines in every lesson. She's incredibly enthusiastic, engaged, and brings a sense of humour to the class. It's because of this that her English is progressing at pace. She always goes out of her way to help her fellow students, whatever nationality they are. Indeed, she is greeted with genuine affection when she arrives in class, from the other learners. Her background in teaching SEND in Turkey is evident in her approach to her classmates.”

Building Confidence Through Community: Parent Village
Through her connection with Educafe, Emine was recommended as a volunteer for Parent Village, a supportive network of parents and volunteers. Here she met the core Educafe team including Ellen and Subia, who made her feel included and introduced her to the different areas of support Educafe has to offer.
Educafe, offered more than practical support, it provided emotional connection, friendship and a space where individuals feel seen and valued. For Emine, this environment was instrumental in helping her overcome feelings of isolation and truly settle into life in the UK.
She describes Parent Village as a place where people genuinely care for one another, creating an atmosphere of warmth, understanding and inclusion.
Transitioning into Volunteering
As Emine’s confidence and language skills grew, so did her desire to give back. Recognising her enthusiasm, Rachel supported her in exploring volunteering opportunities.
She was introduced to Parents’ Village, where she now volunteers weekly alongside Subia, the Project manager and her lovely team of experienced volunteers. From the outset, she was warmly welcomed into the team and quickly became an integral part of the programme.
Her contribution includes supporting sessions, engaging with parents and helping to create a welcoming environment for others, particularly those who, like her, are at the beginning of their journey.
"Emine had been incredible from the get go, her enthusiasm is contagious. She is amazing with little ones and is able to support parents, without being prompted. She has turned out to be a fast learner and has quickly become an integral part of the Parent village volunteer team for the past few months."

A Full Circle Moment: Giving Back to the Community
Emine’s story represents a full circle transitioning from someone who needed support to someone who now provides it.
Her previous experience in teaching SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) in Turkey is clearly reflected in her compassionate and thoughtful approach when supporting others. She actively helps her peers, regardless of background or nationality, fostering inclusion and connection within the group.
Through volunteering, Emine has gained a renewed sense of purpose and fulfilment. Being able to give back to the community that supported her has become an important part of her personal journey.
