Projects 2022

We are delighted to announce some continuing and new projects for 2022.

Weekly Community Cafe

We are so excited to let you know that Educafe Community Cafe is returning on Wednesday 2nd February. We are partnering with Newbury Library to bring you the same welcoming Educafe experience with all the amazing extra resources and benefits that the library can offer. If you haven’t visited the library for a while, you are in for a treat, so please come along and find out what’s on offer. We will be posting again next week with full details of the cafe’s activities and the organisations that will be attending. Educafe will be at the library from 11am – 2pm every Wednesday during February.

English Chatty Corner at the Community Cafe

The English Chatty Corner at the cafe welcomed visitors from more than 15 countries last year including recently arrived people from Afghanistan and Hong Kong. We must thank Margaret Neville and her team of amazing English teachers who volunteered with our Chatty Corner last year supporting so many people to learn English and settle into their new community. We are so grateful to Great Western Railway who will be sponsoring our Chatty Corner this year to allow us to provide more resources for this incredible activity within the cafe. More information about our partnership with GWR to follow.

Educafe Gets Active

Educafe benefited over 400 people during our six-week programme towards the end of 2021. Now, it’s with thanks to Newbury Town Council, Sovereign Housing and the Greenham Trust, that Educafe Gets Active will be returning with more free exercise classes including Chair Yoga at the Community Cafe plus Parent and Baby classes, Women only classes and Boot Camps. We will be adding welling being walks and Yoga. Janine Ford manages this programme and she is on the look out for a Belly Dancing instructor – if you know anyone who could help, please get in touch – contact us at info@educafeuk.co.uk.

She’s Ready

We have partnered with She’s Ready, a female volunteering and empowerment program that started its life in Southend-On-Sea, Essex. We have joined-in to pilot the programme In West Berkshire starting in February 2022.

The pilot is working with 9 organisations across England to support and develop a strong, empowered female social and physical action programme, so why not join in!

English for Maternity

We have received an amazing grant from Groundwork, London to provide an English language programme to support pregnant women to understand the language of pregnancy and birth. The course is designed to encourage women to begin to learn English so that they can access healthcare for themselves and their families and also to access Further Education, training and employment opportunities.

English for Work and Job Support Club

In partnership with WBC Adult Community Learning our English for Work and Job Support Club will be running a further two courses this year. The course we ran in December resulted in five people gaining volunteering positions with Sebastian’s Action Trust and many others going on to Further Education and Training. Thank you to the Globe for allowing us to use their space and to Sebastian’s Action Trust, Job Centre Plus, Careers Advice Service, The Volunteer Centre and Berkshire School of English for delivering workshops.
