On June 26th, we marked our third birthday at Educafe with a special celebration that combined our usual operations with a birthday twist! We were thrilled to welcome a range of guests and supporters, including BBC South, Meridian News, and Newbury Weekly News.
Our dedicated team of over 30 volunteers was on hand, prepped and ready to ensure everything went smoothly. A highlight of the event was the delightful spread of lunchtime nibbles, expertly prepared by the talented students from Mary Hare School, part of our Bake a Difference team.
We were honored to have Newbury’s Mayor, Andy Moore, along with our regular visitors and supporters who joined us in the celebrations. It was a wonderful day filled with joy and appreciation!
We are proud to have over 40 volunteers, including retired professionals, part-time workers, and mums on maternity leave. Many have been with Educafe since we started in June 2021, while some have just recently joined. They commit year-round, working flexibly and whenever they can. The impact of their contributions to date is significant, generating 15000 hours of volunteer time saving Educafe £200k, truly amazing!
‘I love volunteering at Educafe. We recently moved to Berkshire and with a few hours spare a week I wanted to volunteer somewhere where I could meet new people and contribute to the community. Educafe delivers that in spades! I have met so many lovely people, made friends and been part of something utterly unique. It is such a wonderfully friendly and positive environment, benefiting so many people of all ages and backgrounds. I have lost count of how many of them have told me what a difference Educafe has made to their lives, and I am proud to be part of it.’
Educafe is organised into three core areas: The new Cost-of-Living Community Cafe, Parents Village, and The Chatty Corner.
We are currently needing new volunteers for our new Cost-of-Living drop-in service, if you would like to volunteer with us, please complete Educafe’s Volunteer registration form, and one of our team members will contact you about the next steps!
‘I’m retired, volunteering at Educafe gives me something to look forward to each Wednesday! There’s nothing like finding out how other people are and how they live. Literally you come in on a Wednesday and you don’t know what you’re going to find out, but you are always going to meet someone with a wonderful story!’
We look forward to hearing from you!
